After some tense negotiations and a generous donation, Visfeed Station Akaska-Nine secured the sole rights to broadcast the first press conference with Jean-Jacques Bromard. They had wanted it to be a one-on-one interview with Francine Urquhart, the reporter who first spoke with him, but Jean-Jacques wanted maximum publicity. Every visfeed station sent a reporter to ask questions, and each station promoted the press conference. Almost the entire population of the Akaska stopped what they were doing to listen to his words.

Francine Urquhart was afforded the first and last question of the conference. To begin, she asked; “what will be your goals in establishing a church?”

“To give hope to each and every citizen,” replied Jean-Jacques quietly. He sat on a high stool, with no podium in front of him. His hands sat in his lap, loosely clasped. His body and visage exuded a calm confidence.

“Where will this church be?” asked another reporter.

“We’ve gotten a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor, giving us the entire tenth floor of Building T9-341 in the region of Arroyo, the province of Tanta Moussa. This will be near the same building where most of the Comanche pilots live, so we can bring hope to those who need it most. Then we will expand, hopefully at minimum getting one church in every province. From there, it will be up to the will of God.”

“Do you speak with God?” asked a reporter, almost flippantly.

Jean-Jacques paused, and affected an air of disappointment.

“Did you know of the truth of the discovery of the angelcores? Jessica Nuntius, daughter of our illustrious Marshall, heard the voice of her father. He guided her to the spot on the deceased angel where she excavated. She heard the voice of the man who was taken by God. Do any of you doubt that account? Any of you?” Jean-Jacques paused, confronting those seated in front of him. They all averted their gaze, with none opting to face him. “I thought not. We’ve seen Heaven, heard God speak, and are in Hell, yet we still have this cancer of doubt, this plague of the fool who so hates to see those around him or her elevate themselves.”

The reporter who had asked that question shrank back into the crowd.

“This kind of doubt, this kind of enquiry, is acceptable in times of peace in a free society. But we are at war, and not with so benign an enemy as an alien race; we are at war with the forces of Hell. If you think all we will encounter are demons who use only physical force to attack us, think again. Re-read your scriptures. Jesus was tempted by an agent of Satan to step down from the cross and thwart the redemption of man. Satan is the great liar, and will use every means at his disposal to bring about our downfall.”

“Is that why you’re meeting with the Monitors?” asked another reporter. “Rumor has it you’re proposing a new king of legislation.”

“Rumor and innuendo; gossip and doubt,” answered Jean-Jacques with a dismissive wave of his hand.
